The Bruce Peninsula is easily one of the most beautiful parts of Ontario (even Canada for that matter) to visit, but the quality of travel, undeniably hinge on the quality of one’s accommodations.
From pulling back the covers to discover body hair on the bed sheets or discovering undetermined foreign substances on the furniture, it usually doesn’t take long to realize you’ve made a big booking mistake.
We’ve put together a guide to the best Bruce Peninsula motels to stay at and we’ve set up a simple criteria – all motels listed here must rank ABOVE 4 out of 5 stars. Anything less than that doesn’t qualify.
Another important criteria is how good the view of the water is – not all are equal in this department and given how breathtaking the views of the water can be here, we felt it was important.
Lastly we list average room cost, however, that’s less of a factor and more of a ‘head’s up’ as to what you can expect to see on your next credit card bill.
Tobermory Motels
Bruce Anchor Motel
Cost: $173
Average Rating: 4.5
View of the water: Excellent – rooms facing the water will enjoy a spectacular sunset. Those without water-facing rooms only have to cross the street to enjoy the same view.
The Bruce Anchor also rents out cottages, should you prefer to have a little more space to yourself.
Escarpment Heights Motel
Cost: $110
Average Rating: 4.5
View of the water: Non-Existent – if you wish to enjoy the sunset while staying at this hotel, you’ll have to plan a visit to the harbour or perhaps taking a seat at the Crow’s Nest patio and enjoy watching the sun fade over a beer.
Big Tub Harbour Resort
Cost: $120
Average Rating: 4.5
View of the water: About the best you could hope for. The rooms in the back face out on the harbour and those on the front have the choice of walking to the back, or making a quick drive up to the tip of the burg for a spectacular view.
The Big Tub Harbour Resort also has a bistro with a deck looking out on the water, providing guests with one of the most inspiring scenes from which to enjoy their food and drink.
Coach House Inn
Cost: $125
Average Rating: 4.4
View of the water: Not much – the Inn is positioned away from most angles of the water and as with the Escarpment Heights Motel, you will have to make outside arrangements to enjoy your view of the water.
Lion’s Head Motels
Lion’s Head Beach Motel
Cost: $128
Average Rating: 4.5
View of the water: One of the most exceptional views of the water you can enjoy.
The sunrise you’ll get here will give the start of your day an exceptional jolt and basking, even for the busiest body, is made easy by the tranquil view of the marina and the escarpment that surrounds it.
A great place for visitors to eat: Rachel’s Restaurant.
Lion’s Head Inn
Cost: $110
Average Rating: 4.2
View of the water: Somewhat obscured by the trees lining the waterfront outside of the Inn. However, access to the water is but a 90-second walk from the front door of the Inn.
The Lion’s Head Pub is very popular with locals and visitors alike and makes the perfect compliment to the accommodations provided.
Be sure to try the whitefish, as it’s day fresh and expertly cooked.
Bear Tracks Inn
Cost: $125
Average Rating: 4.5
View of the water: None whatsoever. For water, you’ll need to drive into Lion’s Head proper (just 3 minutes from Bear Tracks) to enjoy what is an amazing marina.
Bear Tracks isn’t just an Inn. They also have a restaurant, which you can learn more about here.
Wiarton Motels
Peninsula Motel
Cost: $120
Average Rating: 4.5
View of the water: Trees – hope you find trees as beautiful as water as there is a 0% view of the water from the Peninsula motel.
Waterview on the Bay
Cost: $110
Average Rating: 4.2
View of the water: Without sounding dramatic, the view is life-changing. The Sunset is unbelievably peaceful and will be hard for you to leave.
The motel is also close to Wiarton, where you can get everything you need during your stay.
