Located just outside of Lion’s Head (Ferndale to be precise), the Bear Tracks Restaurant is more than just an eatery – it also features a recently remodeled five-room Inn, which could soon include standalone cabins.
There is also a gift shop for visitors to browse through locally-made items and souvenirs.
Ideally located on Highway 6, the restaurant and motel is one of the newest additions to the Bruce Peninsula food scene and is already making quite a name for itself with a menu packed with locally-sourced ingredients (one of their biggest hits so far is their day-fresh Georgian Bay whitefish) and locally-focused initiatives.
Headed up by Jeff and Roberta Mielhausen – both life-long residents of Lions Head, Bear Tracks is devoted to keeping its local environment as clean as possible by adopting an environmentally-friendly program upon launching.
Some of the food items on the menu even come directly from the Mielhausens’ farm and an effort is made to source as many ingredients from the region as possible.
All food waste from the kitchen is composted and all items used in operation are made of recycled materials and paper products used at the restaurant are bleach-free.
While the Bear Tracks restaurant is rapidly making a name for itself for its comfort food, it also offers a range of options for vegetarians and more recently, even offers vegans a choice by offering the Beyond Meat patty on any of its burger options.
While there is no alcohol served at the present time (the Mielhausens have applied for a license), the Bear Tracks restaurant is one of only a couple of full-service eateries between Wiarton and Tobermory to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Guests can easily be fed all day starting with the $5.95 breakfast (served Monday to Friday).
Open Year-Round
Summer Hours: 7 days a week, 8:00am to 8:00pm.
Winter Hours: Might close one day a week, so be sure to call ahead – 8:00am to 7:00pm.
